5 reasons you should choose an audiobook for your next read #audiobooks

If, like me, your TBR pile is staggering high, or too daunting to contemplate, maybe it’s time to try exchanging your eBook reader or hard copy for an audiobook. Why? Well, I can think of 5 good reasons:

Narrated by professional actors, and read with enthusiasm and in a variety of voices and accents to suit the text and characters, these books allow you to multi-task. You can take a long walk in the sunshine, drive, do housework (!) and still catch up on your favourite read in a thoroughly enjoyable way. You can listen to them anywhere, including in the bath.
Give your eyes a rest. Sometimes, you are just too tired to read and your eyes sting from pollution or staring at computer screens all day. Shut your eyelids, even treat them to a cold compress and listen instead. It’s far more relaxing and mind-releasing.
According to scientists, you are more likely to understand the gist of what the author is saying, or picture the descriptive scenes, if you are using your auditory senses. If you have closed your eyes, as suggested above, there is an even greater chance of this happening.
Audiobooks provide companionship. I know it sounds vaguely ridiculous but the sound of a human voice can be comforting especially if you are unable to sleep at night due to insomnia or sickness, or you are alone. My own theory is that it reminds you of childhood nights when parents would read to you.
They are versatile. Listen to them on headphones, a speaker, laptop, television set, and you can be transported to a new world in a flash, even while travelling on the underground or lying in bed with the lights off.
